A sub-inspector was killed and a constable was injured when armed assailants opened fire on them in Lund Khwar, Mardan on Wednesday.


According to a police official, the attack took place when sub-inspector Sultan Mehmood was tipped off about the presence of Imran—wanted for murdering a constable—at a house in the area.

“Mehmood and Shoiab, a constable, carried out a raid on the house,” he said. As they approached, Imran opened fire on Mehmood, killing him on the spot.

“Shoaib shot at the house, leaving Salman, Imran’s brother, injured,” the official said. Imran managed to escape the scene. “Shoaib was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex and is in critical condition,” he added.

On January 22, unidentified motorcyclists gunned down two officials of the Elite Force Unit in Rashid Garhi within the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station in Peshawar.

Elite Force constable Shahzeb and his colleague, Special Police Officer (SPO) Ihsanullah, were travelling on a motorcycle to work when three unidentified armed men opened fire at them.

Earlier, on January 11, two police officials were killed in Derai area of Kabal tehsil in Swat. The deceased were identified as Usman and Abdul Razzaq. They had been deployed in the area in plain clothes when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them.
