2016 PSL: Karachi beat Lahore by seven wickets

Amir bags hat-trick; Simmons, Shakib play important 109-run partnership for Kings

Murtaza Abbas/Abdul Majid February 05, 2016

Karachi Kings beat Lahore Qalandars in the second match of the inaugural Pakistan Super League by seven wickets courtesy Muhammad Amir's hat-trick and Lendll Simmons and Shakibal Hasan's 109-run partnership.

Earlier, a hat-trick in the penultimate over by Karachi's left-arm pacer Amir restricted Lahore to a total of 125-8.

After being sent in to bat first, no Lahore batsman was able to take a stand againt the Karachi spinners. Muhammad Rizwan (37 off 31) was the top-scorer for the team with Sohaib Maqsood playing the next best innings of 22 runs off 27 balls.

For Karachi, Amir dismissed Dwayne Bravo, Zohaib Khan and Kevon Cooper to pull off the first-ever hat-trick of the PSL. Shoaib Malik, Shakibal Hasan, Sohail Tanvir and Imad Wasim contributed with one wicket apiece.

Maximum boundary hitter award winner goes to Lendll Simmons.

Man of the match is Shakibal Hasan for his all-round performance: It was a 150-run wickets. You need to spend time. Credit goes to the bowlers and the whole team. We haven't spent much time together but a win will give us chance to sit together and relax. The way we batted today, if we continue, we will have a good tournament.

Azhar Ali: Karachi deserved to win, they played better than us. We lost wickets regularly. It would have been lovely to have three wickets [on Shakib's missed catch]. Its a long tournament, its a new team, there are a lot of things to learn.

Shoaib Malik: We had in our mind that we need all-rounders  and spinners for UAE. The PSL is all about helping youngsters.
