LAHORE: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has launched a programme to impart free education to children of brick kilns worker, PEF MD Tariq Mahmood said on Friday.

Mahmood made the remarks while speaking to a delegation of PEF partner schools’ owners. He said the programme would go a long way in improving the quality of life of families the children hail from. Mahmood said PEF partner schools should strive hard to make the programme a success. He said children enrolled across PEF partner schools would be provided all facilities in addition to free education.

The PEF MD said besides being enrolled across public, workers’ welfare board and non-formal literacy institutions, children would also be admitted to private schools where their education would be subsidised through the foundation’s Education Voucher Scheme (EVS).  He said PEF partner schools had a pivotal role to play in the programme to make it successful as it would enable the children to become productive members of the society. The PEF MD said it would enable them to overcome poverty and lead better lives.

Mahmood said the PEF had not only been improving the provision of education but had also been revamping standards across partner schools by introducing ingenious mechanisms. He said this had made the partnership between the foundation and partner schools worthwhile.

The PEF MD said a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system had been put in place to ensure that the partnership continued to smoothly function. He said it was heartening to note that the PEF’s partner schools had been effectively serving underprivileged families by harnessing the financial and technical assistance provided by the foundation. Mahmood said meetings would be regularly convened between PEF partner schools and the foundation to facilitate the two-way flow of ideas.
