HARIPUR:
A woman died under mysterious circumstances in a remote village of Mankray union council in Haripur Friday. While the father says she was killed, her husband claims she committed suicide.
According to the police, the father of the deceased, Naik Akhtar, a resident of Kahka village, said his daughter Maria Bibi, 22, married Shahbaz, a resident of Dobandi village four months ago. He said Maria Bibi would often complain about her husband’s violent behaviour towards her.
“On Thursday, around 9pm, Shahbaz informed me my daughter had committed suicide by shooting herself with a pistol,” Akhtar told the police. He added she was taken to Women and Children Hospital, Haripur and when he reached there, she was lying dead.
He accused his son-in-law of murdering his daughter. Police registered an FIR and arrested Shahbaz. According to doctors, Maria Bibi died due to a single bullet shot in her stomach. However, the autopsy report is yet to confirm whether it was a suicide or a murder.
