Only for cooking: Consumers told to cut gas use

The shortfall is bridged through load management in different sectors in Punjab

LAHORE: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has urged its consumers to slash gas use and limit it only for cooking and skip heating amid supply constraints due to severe cold spell in Punjab. According to an SNGPL statement the utility faces an additional shortfall of 250 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) each year during winters. The shortfall is bridged through load management in different sectors in Punjab. Even with the said suspension, the 600 MMCFD gas available for Punjab is not sufficient to meet the demand of around 1,000 MMCFD for domestic and commercial sectors in extreme winters. Resultantly, the consumers located away from the supply mains face severe low pressure issues. “All consumers are requested to minimise the use of all gas appliances in order to ensure provision of gas supplies for cooking purposes only for fellow consumers,” the statement said.
