ISLAMABAD:

Allama Iqbal Open University has introduced a new model of open schooling for dropout female students who could not continue study due to social or financial constraints.

According to project director Dr Tanzeela Nabeel, the university will enrol such students into non-formal education programmes to fight illiteracy in the country’s underdeveloped regions.

The AIOU has prepared courses for class six, seven, eight, nine and ten in local languages to facilitate these female students, according to a news release on Saturday.

AIOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui said the pilot project could also be adopted by local governments and private institutions to educate the dropout students.

The project had successfully been started in cooperation with Plan international at Chakwal, Vehari and Tehsil Sajawal (Thatta District). Dr Siddidui said female students were 57 per cent of AIOU’s total enrolment.
