140th council meeting: PMDC elects new president, vice-president

The council also elected the executive members of PMDC

ISLAMABAD: Members of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) elected Prof Dr Shabbir Lehri as President and Prof Dr Abid Farooqi as Vice President at its 140th council meeting on Saturday.

The council members also elected members of the Executive Committee of PMDC comprising Dr Farukh Ijaz, Dr Taj Muhammad, Dr Aamir Hussain, Dr Feroz Jahangir, Dr Shafiqur Rehman and Dr Mussarat Hussain.

PMDC’s new President Prof Dr Shabbir Lehri said that he would try his best to make PMDC one of the world’s best medical regulatory authorities.

He stressed that he needs trust and collaboration of all the stakeholders in medical education to continue with his responsibilities, adding that all rules and regulations will be enforced in true letter and spirit to bring out a more positive image of the council.

He added that the management committee has done a tremendous job in running the day-to-day affairs of PMDC and building the new council in a short period of 120 days. He added that the management committee improved PMDC’s image as they had been tasked.

Talking about the autonomous status of PMDC, the newly elected Vice President Dr Abid Farooqi said that being a statutory regulatory authority, PMDC has its own rules and regulations to comply with its policy matters .He added that he would welcome ideas from any corners including the federal government regarding improvements in the council.
