NAB authorises probe against Dr Asim Hussain, two others

The Executive Board decided to file a corruption reference against accused officers of PESCO and others

An Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarters. The following decisions were taken during the EBM.


The Executive Board decided to file a corruption reference against accused officers of PESCO and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority and deliberately looting public money and causing a huge loss of Rs1886.85 million to the national exchequer.

The EBM also decided to file a corruption reference against Nawabzada Mehmood Zeb and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority in leasing out an area of 498.96 acres for mineral exploration, in violation of mining concession rules 2005 which caused a huge loss of Rs355 million to the national exchequer.

The EBM further decided to file a reference against Officers of NAB for misuse of authority. Their mala fide action led to disrepute of NAB.

The EBM further authorized an investigation against Dr Asim Hussain, Ex-Minister for Petroleum, Syed Athar Hussain, Director Land, KDA and Abdul Hameed, Administrator, Ziauddin Medical Center, Dubai. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for fraudulent and illegal allotment and annexation of govt lands. The proceeds of these illegal activities were utilized for money laundering, causing huge loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer. The investigation is one of three investigations authorised during the meeting along with four separate inquiries against persons involved with high-level corruption, embezzlement of funds.

At the end, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said NAB is committed to eradicating corruption from the country by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy through holistic approach of Enforcement, Awareness and Prevention Strategy. He directed the Regional NAB DGs for expeditious processing of these cases.
