Education schemes: Govt to reconstruct over 200 schools

UK’s development department extends support to finalise projects

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government will reconstruct over 200 higher secondary schools in nine districts of the province.

This was stated in a handout issued by the information directorate on Saturday. According to the document, the decision was announced during a meeting held in Islamabad.

Minister for Education Muhammad Atif Khan, Education Secretary Ali Raza Bhutta and representatives of Department for International Development (DFID) attended the meeting. During the meeting, DFID reviewed the progress of various schemes and discussed the modalities for such reconstruction.

“Reconstruction of schools affected by earthquake will be undertaken and more schools with modern facilities will be established,” read the statement. “DFID will extend its cooperation in this regard.”

Participants were informed that multi-storey buildings will be constructed in congested areas to accommodate more students without affecting the pace of work and studies of the students.

“A comprehensive plan and strategy is being prepared so that work on education schemes can begin on a war footing,” stated
the document.

On the occasion, DFID representatives assured the meeting of their cooperation and support for the K-P government and said the establishment of new schools in the province will help in providing quality education to the children.
