Pakistan will continue supporting UN peacekeeping operations: army chief

General Raheel Sharif visits Ivory Coast to spend a day with army contingent deployed as UN peacekeeping force

Army chief General Raheel Sharif has said Pakistan was committed to meet emerging challenges, and would continue to support peacekeeping operations under the banner of United Nations.

According to the ISPR, his remarks came during his visit to Ivory Coast where he spent a day with Pakistan Army contingent deployed as part of the UN peacekeeping force.

General Raheel said Pakistan was proud of its historic and current role as major troops contributor to the UN peacekeeping missions.



The media's military wing quoted the army chief saying that Pakistan, being one of the leading contributors, deployed on six UN missions despite the army’s preoccupation with ongoing fight against terrorism, including operation Zarb-e-Azb and intelligence-based operations.

The COAS also acknowledged the sacrifices of Pakistani troops.

“Our troops are proving their mettle in UN peacekeeping missions,” he said.

The Ivory Coast president also paid tribute to the excellent performance of Pakistani troops.
