Asif Zardari embezzled Rs6 billion, claims PTI chief

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Zardari was involved in embezzlement of Rs6 billion of the Pakistani people.

“It was your [Pakistanis] money that he has escaped with. I ask how many people came out of their homes to protest against this?” Imran said while addressing a rally in Islamabad.

The PTI chairman said it was due to the growing corruption that Pakistanis now owed a huge amount of loans.

“During the previous government, each Pakistani owed Rs35,000 and now this amount has reached to Rs110,000,” he said.

Imran also denounced government restrictions on political campaigning, saying due to the barricades installed in the capital city he had to take a route through farming fields to reach the campaign venue.

“I especially thank my female supporters who reached the jalsa site despite a lot of barricades,” he said.

The PTI chief also lamented the fact he wasn't allowed to campaign for LG elections as a party chairman.

“If we have democracy in our country, is it not my right to come to my people and talk to them?” asked Imran.

He said while the prime minister could go to Lodhran, and give package of Rs2.5 billion because of the upcoming elections, he was not allowed to get involved in political campaigns.

Concluding the speech, Imran said his party was not alone as the people stood beside him.

When the next election will come, we will not even need to campaign. Our work in KP will speak for itself, added the PTI chairman.

Al Attar Properties Link with Zardari | 8 years ago | Reply Many in Dubai business circle believe Mr. Zardari has many assets in Dubai under different shadow companies including Al Attar Properties in Dubai. For example some property forum claim that Al Attar Business Tower in Dubai which is recently sold actually belonged Mr. Zardari.

I know he doesn’t like Zardari but that is no reason to devalue him so much. Imran should be ashamed of accusing a man of Zardari’s stature, a former president of Pakistan, of embezzling a paltry sum of Rs six billion when lowly state officials are known to have helped themselves with amounts far higher than that. I think the six billion rupees that Imran Khan is referring is the famous sixty million dollars in Swiss bank account, which Zardari made during his initial practice rounds before he seriously set up in business. In fact on court orders, the government sent to Switzerland a letter on the advice of, and perhaps drafted by a ‘respectable’ lawyer and member of one of the august houses. However, unknown to the courts, and behind their back, another letter was sent to Switzerland which completely changed the complexion of the case and resulted in its demise. However, the real credit goes to Zardari’s peer who claimed to have prayed for two months in the Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia to protect his ‘hard-earned’ money. Just shows that you name any ‘worthy’ cause, and there is a peer for that. In a move that was not entirely unpredictable, in accordance with the Charter of Democracy, and honouring the ‘gentleman’s agreement between the ruling party and the loyal opposition to cooperate fully, and not to probe each others' corruption, this shady deal was not investigated by the present Nawaz Sharif government. I think Asif Zardari should send a defamation notice to Imran Khan for tarnishing his reputation by calling him small-minded which is implicit in accusing him of pinching such a paltry sum of Rupees six billion.
