Development: City district council to present Rs810m budget in Dec

PESHAWAR:

The city district council will present its first development budget worth Rs810 million for the current fiscal year in the first week of December. However, the rift between the district government and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) over possession of assets is yet to be resolved, The Express Tribune learnt on Thursday.

The budget breakdown

Nazim Muhammad Asim Khan told The Express Tribune, the process of preparing the budget has been finalised and it will be presented to the district council soon for approval.



He added the budget will be used for development purposes in sectors like education, health, agriculture and sports. The nazim added 30% of funds from the municipal corporation’s budget will be transferred to Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP).

Asim revealed of the development budget, approximately 20% has been allocated for municipal services, 10% for road construction, 10% for sports, youth and women while 30% has been earmarked for unspecified development work.

Rift continues

A local government official, requesting anonymity, told The Express Tribune a committee has been formed to resolve a rift between the district government and TMA town-I over possession of assets.

He said in a recent meeting, representatives from both sides explained their grievances before the committee and it is expected a decision will be taken soon to end the disagreement.

The LG official added the nazim had told the committee that in the previous system, schools, colleges, terminals, social welfare, fire brigade and other assets were considered to be under the local government. However, TMA officials said, under the Local Government Act-2013, these assets belong to the municipality.
