Dr Asim Hussain handed over to police on four-day remand

Move comes after the completion of his 90-day preventive custody with Rangers

An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Thursday handed over Dr Asim Hussain, a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, to police on a four-day remand, Express News reported.

Earlier on Wednesday, an FIR was registered against Dr Asim at North Nazimabad police station under Clause 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Names of Dr Asim and another Pakistan People’s Party leader were included in the Exit Control List reportedly on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The move against the former petroleum minister came after the completion of his 90-day preventive custody with paramilitary Rangers.

In a first major detention of a major figure of PPP, Dr Asim was apprehended on August 26 on the accusation of facilitating terrorism and was later handed over to Rangers.

The arrest had drawn stern reaction from PPP which condemned the move and termed it as politically motivated.

On the contrary, Rangers said the crackdown was necessary to break the cycle of violence and corruption in the teeming metropolis of 20 million people.
