ISLAMABAD: The first phase of the under-construction Islamabad Expressway Expansion Project is nearing completion. Work on placing girders on the I-8 Interchange, the main component of the project’s first phase, commenced on Sunday. A press statement by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said German road infrastructure experts are supervising the project. CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal on Sunday visited the project to inspect the pace of work. Speaking on the occasion, he said that work on placing the girders had started, which would be completed soon. The first phase is supposed to be completed by November 30. A dedicated lane of the ‘signal free expressway’ has been included in the project to ease flow of traffic, the statement said. In addition, police began diverting traffic from Zero Point due to road carpeting, which began on Sunday.
