Dozens of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers from UC-54 Gondlanwala staged a protest demonstration on Saturday against alleged irregularities during local government elections.
The protesters, who were travelling in tractor-trolleys and rickshaws, gathered near the RO’s office and blocked the road for all kinds of traffic. They claimed that Rizwan Yousaf Gujjar, the PTI candidate for chairman from UC-54, had lost the election after 474 votes cast in his favour were declared void. “The number of votes cast at some polling stations exceeded the number of ballot papers provided there,” the protesters said. They also said that police had acted partially during the elections. The returning officers met the protesters and assured them that their claims would be investigated. The PTI workers then called off the protest and dispersed.
