PESHAWAR: Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan has inaugurated a new campus of the National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG) at University of Peshawar, stated a handout issued on Thursday.

“The new campus has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and built at an estimated cost of Rs12.1 million,” read the statement. “The campus, which took eight years to complete, consists of modern laboratories, classrooms and three hostels each for men, women and staff members.”

The governor visited various lab facilities which were available to research students in the campus.

“Natural resources act as the backbone for a country’s constant economic growth and Pakistan, especially K-P and Fata, is endowed with the best resources,” the handout quoted Mehtab as saying. “However, it is unfortunate these resources have not been tapped to their optimum potential. Rather exploitation of natural resources has been neglected in the past.”

He added the National Centre of Excellence in Geology is one of the best centres of the country and its experts need to come forward and extend technical support to exploration projects.

“The present government is making efforts to attract investors for exploration projects,” the statement quoted Mehtab as saying.

The governor said a university will be established in Fata. “Strong educational institutes can bring real change in the country by producing the best graduates and scientists,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, UoP Vice Chancellor Muhammad Rasul Jan reiterated the need for the practical manifestation of research conducted at varsities.
