Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: UBL down Hyderabad by 263 runs

Remaining matches drawn on final day of round four

KARACHI: UBL defeated hosts Hyderabad by 263 runs to record the only victory of the day as the other four matches ended in a draw on the final day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s fourth round on Thursday.

At the Niaz Stadium, a brilliant bowling display by UBL completely dismantled the hosts’ batting line-up as UBL bowlers, Yasim Mumtaz, Rumman Raees, Ehsan Adil and Mir Hamza ran riot in Hyderabad.

The hosts, who were in their second innings, had resumed the day on 50-2, chasing a target of 454, but only managed 191 runs as Mumtaz took three wickets, while the remaining trio bagged two wickets apiece giving away 27, 36, 37 and 41 runs respectively.

Mir Ali (84) was the highest scorer from Hyderabad while Rizwan Ahmed and Azeem Ghumman scored 31 and 26 runs respectively.

At the Arbab Niaz Stadium, hosts Peshawar came tantalisingly close to getting a result out of the match but fell short of just 24 runs as the match against Port Qasim ended in a draw.  Port Qasim had resumed their second innings on 186-6 and added 230 runs in 70 overs to post 416 runs giving a target of 34 runs to Peshawar, which seemed highly doable except for the fact that Peshawar had to reach the target in just two overs.

The hosts managed to make only 10 runs in their second innings to end the match as a draw.  At the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, hosts Lahore Blues fell short by 55 runs on the final day to end the match as a draw against SNGPL.

The visitors had resumed their second innings on 155-3 and added 96 runs before declaring on 251-6, giving a target of 317 runs courtesy the 65-run lead they carried forward from the first innings.

In reply, the hosts managed only 262 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of play.

Meanwhile, the match between Islamabad and SSGC at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad and the one between Karachi Whites and KRL at the National Stadium of Karachi also ended in a draw.
