LIVE: Polling underway for second phase of LG polls in Punjab, Sindh

Polling is in progress for the second phase of Local Government Elections in twelve districts of Punjab and fourteen districts of Sindh.

The polling started at 7:30am and will continue till 5:30pm without any break.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has established a control room in Islamabad.

The districts in Punjab that are polling today are Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura and Khanewal.

LG minister removed a day before elections

Today’s polls hark back to the first phase held on October 31, when the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) went head to head against each other, but the latter failed to gain much ground.

The districts in Sindh that are polling today are Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allayar, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar. Polling in the entire Sanghar district, however, has been postponed due to security reasons.



Polling ends for second phase of LG polls

The time allowed for voting in second phase of LG polls in Punjab and Sindh by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has lapsed, Express News reported.

The vote-count will start in a short while. However, the voters who are inside the polling stations will be allowed to cast their votes.



Arms recovered from MNA’s car in Gujranwala

A G3 gun, a Kalashnikov and several bullet rounds were recovered from a PML-N MNA’s car, which was reportedly being used by a candidate in Gujranwala, Express News reported.



800 ‘fake’ ballot papers seized from Nawabshah

Authorities seized as many as 800 ‘fake’ ballot papers from a polling station in Nawabshah district of Sindh, Express News reported.

The ballot papers did not bear thumb impressions of voters.



3 arrested in Sargodha

Police arrested at least three people, who were posing as ECP officials, in Sargodha’s UC-140, Express News reported.



Clashes break out in Gujranwala

Clashes broke out between supporters of Pomi Butt, a PML-N candidate, and an independent candidate’s supporters in UC-22 of Gujranwala, Express News reported.



ECP receives 103 complaints from Punjab, Sindh

As many as 103 complaints have been received so far in election control room of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Express News reported.

56 complaints were received from various districts of the Punjab while 47 complaints were received from Sindh.



Asifa Bhutto Zardari casts her first ever vote in Tando Allahyar

Asifa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of former president Asif Ali Zardari, cast her first every vote in Tando Allahyar, Express News reported.

Asifa was accompanied by her elder sister Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari when she turned up at a polling station in Tando Allahyar.





Dispute at Badin polling station leaves 7 injured

Activists of two political groups traded blows in Ward 3 of Haji Soomar Abro UC in Badin, Express News reported.

Over seven injured as a result of fierce clashes between the activists of opposing political parties.

Former National Assembly speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza cast her vote in Badin, Express News reported.



10 injured in Hafizabad clash

At least 10 people were wounded when a dispute broke out between supporters of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s candidate and activists of an independent candidate in Hafizabad city of the Punjab, Express News reported.

Both candidates were arrested while polling process was stopped.

Polling process was stopped in polling stations in Kunri area of Umer Kot district, Sindh, Express News reported.

Citizens manhandled journalists at a polling station in Mianwali, Express News reported.




Polling process disrupted in Khanewal

Polling process was stopped at polling stations in Talamba area of Khanewal district in Punjab over disputes among political parties’ activists, Express News reported.




Two candidates arrested in Narang Mandi

Two independent candidates for general counsellor were arrested in UC-9, Narang Mandi over violation of election code of conduct, Express News reported.

Both the candidates were reportedly forcing voters to take pictures of their ballet paper before casting their votes.




Voter arrested in Sargodha

A female voter was arrested in Sargodha UC-9 for casting multiple votes, Express News reported.




Several injured in Shaikhupura clashes

Several injured in a dispute between political workers in Shaikhupura, Express News reported.
