A large number of passengers were caught off-guard on Kohat-Rawalpindi Road as their vehicles were forcibly taken away by police so they could be used for local government election duties.
The affected people criticised the move in strong words and demanded that the government take action against the people or policemen involved.
One of the commuters, Ahsan Khan, told The Express Tribune that he and others were en route to Islamabad and were ordered to get off their vehicles by policeman stationed at Fateh Jang. The police used force to offload passengers from the vehicles.
Other passengers also complained of police harassment and said their vehicles were taken forcibly. They said many people had to hire private transport to get to their destinations. They said the police showed a merciless attitude as some medical patients were stranded on the road.
