ISLAMABAD: For a more purposeful imposition of Urdu as the official language in government offices, simple and easy words should be used so that the common people can understand it easily, Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Monday.
“The government is committed to the enforcement of the Urdu language and will take steps to remove all hurdles on its way,” he remarked while chairing the second meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the Enforcement of Urdu as official language on Monday.

The minister called for avoiding difficult words, expressions and proposed simple and familiar Urdu words while translating the same from English.
The meeting reviewed the implementation status along with immediate measures approved by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the progress on the decisions of the first meeting of
the committee.
The meeting decided to invite the secretaries of various ministries in the next sitting so that they can apprise others about the status of implementation and the problems faced by their respective ministries in this regard.
Urdu as official language
It was also agreed that the committee would meet every week in future to finalise its recommendations as early as possible.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, special assistant to prime minister Irfan Siddiqui and secretary IB&NH Saba Mohsin Raza.
The next meeting of the committee would be held on November24.
