LAHORE:

China has converted friendly political relations with Pakistan into economic links through one of the biggest projects of the century, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that has the potential to usher in great economic development, said Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal.

“China ranked number 16 in terms of international investment in Pakistan but after CPEC it ranks number one,” Iqbal said at the Pak-China roundtable conference on Monday. “The travel time of a container that takes 50 days to reach Heimburg will reduce to 15 days and the cost by $1,800 once the CPEC is completed and operational,” said Iqbal, adding Pakistan will be a trade hub of Central Asia through the CPEC in a few years’ time.

“The project will be completed by 2016,” he said, adding the route has not been changed and the project was being completed as signed in the agreement.
