KARACHI:

A group of Bengali immigrants protested on Monday outside the National Alien Registration Authority's (NARA) office against the delay in delivery of their registration cards.

The protesters allegedly smashed windows of the NARA office located on West Wharf Road. They also tried to set ablaze some furniture of the office before police intervened and dispersed the crowd.

The protesters belonged to the fishermen community and complained that the NARA staff members were deliberately delaying the process of issuing their registration cards to them.

Talking to the media, one of protester asserted that his community faced inconveniences as they did not possess valid registration cards. The NARA staff members were demanding bribes and those who did not pay them were not issued their registration cards, he claimed.
