KARACHI:

Sindh information and education minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has created a "soft" image of Pakistan by celebrating Diwali and other festivals with religious minorities.

Addressing a press conference at the committee room of the Sindh Assembly on Monday, Khuhro expressed his appreciation for the people living in Tharparkar, Thatta and Sujawal districts for giving a warm welcome to Bilawal during his recent visit. "Bilawal will be leading an election rally in Badin today and I hope he will once again get such a response from the area's people," he said. Khuhro added that the PPP has never ever supported the postponement of the polls in Sanghar, instead it was the election commission that made the decision.

Call for fairness: Accountability should be across the board: Khuhro

He criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and called him a 'supporter of dictators'. "He has now become the champion of democracy but the people of this country can recall how he once endorsed General Musharraf's martial law and took part in his referendum," said Khuhro.

Khuhro said that the PTI has made claims to "sweep" the local government election in various areas of Sindh but it should recall its defeat in the last general election where the party only won three seats from Karachi.

Taking charge

Responding to a question about PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, who is living abroad, he said, "Whether he lives abroad because of his health or other issues, the whole party, which is now being led by Bilawal, is in Pakistan."

Khuhro said the PPP utilises its own resources in the election campaign; the government has nothing to do with it.
