Nawaz Sharif is working against interests of peasants: Imran

The PTI chairman addresses crowd in Mianwali as part of the upcoming LG polls

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday that the incumbent prime minister was working against the interests of peasants in the country.

“The fight against poverty starts from helping peasants and following this path our neighbour China restored 0.3 billion people from the line of poverty,” he said, while addressing an election rally in Mianwali.

Speaking at the rally as part of the campaign for the upcoming local government elections, Imran said poverty could only be eradicated if peasants and farmers were assisted by the government.



“If Nawaz were worried about the peasants, he would not have spent billions on the Metro Bus project,” he said.

The PTI chairman said if the prime minister had spent Rs100 billion on farmers, there would have been a revolution in villages.

Recounting the old days, Imran said in 2002 he had won a single seat from Mianwali.

“You people had sowed the seeds of change when you made me win the election. God willing, we will wage a war against poverty by helping peasants and educating children,” he said.

Pakistan was meant to be an Islamic welfare state whose fundamentals should have been justice and equality, he added.

“The country should have been ruled by the people. But it was ruled by a few elitists who lived in palaces whilst the masses remained in poverty,” said Imran.
