FAISALABAD:

The Labour Department has challaned 900 brick kiln owners in Faisalabad this year for not paying the notified minimum wage to their workers.

Talking to The Express Tribune on Wednesday, Labour Director Nasrullah said 470 brick kiln were registered with the Labour Department in Faisalabad district. The owners of these kilns were supposed to implement the rules and regulations notified by the government.

He said the Labour Department had received a number of complaints that workers at most brick kilns were not being paid their due wages.

He said the department had constituted several teams to investigate the complaints and take strict action against the kiln owners.

He said the teams had conducted surprise checks and challaned 900 kiln owners this year. The department also launched a campaign against unregistered factories this year, Nasrullah said. “They have been told to get registered with the Labour Department at the earliest or face the music.”

He said because of the campaign, several factories, industries and power loom units had gotten themselves registered and the number of registered units in Faisalabad now stood at 2,050.
