ABBOTABAD:

Murtaza Javed Abbasi, acting speaker for National Assembly and MNA from NA-18, Abbottabad-II, asked National Highway Authority to revise the design of Hazara Motorway in order to protect land belonging to Abbottabad University of Science and Technology (AUST).

This issue was raised in a briefing that NHA arranged for Abbasi on his visit to AUST on Sunday. NHA officials informed the speaker about the progress on the Hazara Motorway project and said a piece of AUST land would be used for the road.

However, Abbasi asked NHA to redesign the motorway to prevent encroachment into AUST. He added the university and the motorway project were important for the nation as was Hazara Division. According to Project Director Abdul Ghafoor Beg, “NHA officials will prepare a revised plan within a week and present it to the speaker and university administration for approval.” Beg also briefed the speaker on the educational programmes and future plans of the institution.
