Interestingly, as Rajan boarded the plane in Bali, Mumbai police chief Ahmad Javed announced all cases registered against Rajan were htransferred to the CBI because of the central agency's expertise in "handling transnational crimes".

The CBI officials are likely to meet with officials from the Mumbai police service in the near future to discuss the details of individual cases against Chhota Rajan.

"The city police will hand over all the documents concerned, materials, evidences gathered against Rajan to the CBI," a police official said.

Mumbai police maintained it will have no role in investigating Rajan; however, local police would assist the CBI given the nature of the cases, some of which date back to 1980s.
