KARACHI:

A Dubai-bound national carrier flight from Islamabad on Wednesday landed in Karachi after a three-kilogramme bundle of unclaimed heroin was found in the plane.

Soon after the take-off, a crew member of PIA flight PK-271 spotted a bundle of tissue rolls lying in the middle of the aisle. None of the passengers knew where it came from.

“The pilot was informed and when it was opened up they found heroin in it. That’s all we know at the moment,” a PIA official said.

Instead of proceeding to the destination, the captain decided to land at the Karachi International Airport where ASF took the bundle in its custody. Later, the passenger plane was allowed to proceed to Dubai. No arrests were made.

Officials also said that whoever might have thrown the packet there would go scot-free. “But it would have been a chaos if ASF personnel had tried questioning everyone on the board,” said another official.
