PESHAWAR: The district government arranged a ‘dengue awareness walk’ on GT Road on Monday. District nazim Muhammad Asim, health department officials, workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and lady health workers took part in the door-to-door campaign. The walk started at Hashtnagri and people held placards with awareness messages.“So far, there has been no death reported in the city due to dengue,” District Health Officer Dr Jahangir said while talking to participants. “People thought to be affected by the virus are treated at special units set up at hospitals.” Jahangir added people could avoid the disease by taking the necessary precautionary measures. “We have started fumigation in the city,” said Asim. He added efforts would be made to keep the city clean and prevent standing water in residential areas. Hundreds of people diagnosed with dengue were admitted to different hospitals around the province. However, doctors maintained no one had died of the disease in the province this year. Rabia Basri, a PTI activist, said efforts were in full swing to keep people informed on the illness.
