Mortar shells fired from Afghanistan land in Kurram Agency

Agency’s political administration says no loss of life or damage to property was reported

PARACHINAR, KURRAM AGENCY: Three mortar shells fired from Afghanistan landed in Pakistan's Kurram agency early Monday morning.

“The mortars were fired from Maqbal, a village near the Durand Line in Afghanistan’s Paktika province. They landed in Ghoz Garhi village of Upper Kurram Agency of Fata,” officials told The Express Tribune.

However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported.



Security officials reached the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

This is the third incident of cross-border fire from Afghanistan within a couple of weeks as on October 25, four Pakistani soldiers were killed when militants fired rockets from across the border in Khyber Agency.

Two days later, another seven soldiers were killed when their border post came under attack from the Afghan side of the Durand Line in South Waziristan Agency, the military said in a statement. The Frontier Corps check post in northeast of Angoor Adda was targeted from across the border, said the Inter-Services Public Relations, the military’s media wing. “As a result of heavy firing from the Afghan side seven FC soldiers embraced Shahadat,” it added.



Army chief General Raheel Sharif recently called for better border management by the two neighbours to ensure long-term peace and stability in the volatile region. Both sides have often accused each other of doing little to fight certain militant groups.
