The adviser to the governor on higher education and media, Wajahat Ali, said that Dr Shaikh’s appointment was lawful as the act had been amended. “The person is allowed to take the third term as VC according to the amended law,” he claimed. He also clarified that Dr Shaikh does not have the charge of two universities. “When he was appointed as the VC of DUHS, his charge from LUMHS was automatically taken back and, currently, he has the additional charge of LUMHS VC,” he explained. He added that Dr Shaikh will hold the additional charge until a new VC is appointed for LUMHS.
