Consumers burdened : LPG distributor lashes against practices
He said the country’s current demand stood at around 1,600 tons of LPG per day
ISLAMABAD:
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Distributors Association has called upon the government to take action against unethical practices in the LPG market. “Though presently, things in the LPG market are going in order but at times, gas mafia passes on unbearable burden onto the masses in shape of illegal rise in prices,” association’s secretary Arsalan Khokhar said. He said that the government must make efforts to protect the masses from inflationary impact of the rising trends in prices of LPG. He was of the view that such artificial trends were a result of monopolistic policies, which were designed to undermine the government’s welfare initiatives. He said the country’s current demand stood at around 1,600 tons of LPG per day while its demand in winters rises up to 3,000 tons. “The government needs to devise a way to cover the shortfall by giving exemption from taxes on LPG imports.”
