Lightning kills six in Balochistan

Three children among dead as lightning strucks houses in Harnai and Loralai districts of Balochistan

At least six people, including three children, were killed and four others injured on Sunday after lightning struck their houses in two separate areas of Harnai and Loralai districts of Balochistan.

The house of Malik Shahjahan Tareen in Wam Tangi area of Harnai caught fire after it was hit by lightning, resulting in deaths of three minor girls present inside the house, sources told The Express Tribune.

“Three minor girls aged between three and ten were killed due to lightning,” a senior official of the Balochistan Levies confirmed, saying two boys and a girl were also injured in the incident.

However, the official added, some residents managed to escape the fire.


Levies officials shifted the bodies and the injured children to a nearby hospital where the deceased were identified as Kulsoom Bibi, Fahmida and Majida and the injured as Somiya, Abdul Rehman and Abdul Rahim.

In a separate incident, lightning struck a house in Dukki Tehsil of Loralai district and killed at least two people.

Similarly, in Parkabad area of district Loralai, a man died after lightning hit an open area.

The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital of the district and were later identified as Abdul Wali, Akhtar Mohammad, and Kaleemullah.
