United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday strongly condemned the attack on Ashura processions and Imambargahs in Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported.

"Nothing justifies terrorism," the secretary general reiterated in a statement while referring to the Jacobabad attack on an Ashura procession and the Imambargah attack in Balochistan.

Urging the government of Pakistan to take all necessary measures in order to bring to justice the perpetrators of these attacks, he said that Pakistan must do its "utmost to protect its citizens, including all minorities." Meanwhile, the UN chief extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.

Terror struck Sindh’s Jacobabad district on October 23 when a blast ripped through a mourning procession near the city’s Hajan Shah Dargah, killing 22 people and injuring 30 others.

The blast took place at about 7:30 pm when a Muharram 9 mourning procession, which started from the Dargah Hajan Shah, was passing through the city’s Lashari Muhalla.

In another incident on Thursday, at least 10 people were killed while 13 others including children were injured after a suicide bomber attacked an Imambargah in the Kachhi district of Balochistan.
