Intelligence official says three others were injured in drone strike in Nangarhar

A US drone strike killed on Friday six Islamic State militants and injured three others on the Afghan side of the border, an intelligence official said.

"Six suspected militants were killed in Nazyan area of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province while three others were injured," an intelligence official said.

According to initial reports, the dead as well as the injured belonged to the militant group Islamic State (IS).


There have been several drone strikes near the Pak-Afghan border in the past with recent targets being IS hideouts. However, sources said, identities of the accused have not been determined as yet.

Earlier on Thursday, several terrorists were killed in South Waziristan in the first night-time strike by Pakistan’s first indigenous armed drone, ‘Burraq’, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It was Buraaq’s first airstrike in the dark hours and took place with pinpoint accuracy, a source told The Express Tribune.

The development took place after airstrikes by fighter jets killed 21 militants near the Pak-Afghan border, said an ISPR press release.
