According to the police and witnesses, the police personnel - identified as Arshad and Gohar – were on a special security duty in the area when they were attacked. Both of them died on the spot.
Confirming the incident, District Police Officer, Javed Iqbal said police has conducted search operation in the area but no arrest was made.

TTP accepts responsibility
Meanwhile, the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility of the attack, terming it a 'revenge attack.'
“TTP’s Special Task Force targeted two policemen at Swabi Chowk and fled after the attack,” said TTP spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani.
He said the attack was for revenge of killing of TTP activist Abbas alias Shaukat.
Senior police official gunned down by militants in Swabi
On Wednesday, four alleged militants were killed in an encounter in Swabi. According to officials, the suspects had been identified as Hazrat Bilal and Liaqat from Peshawar; Muhammad Zeb from Mohmand Agency and Abbas from Mainai, Swabi.
According to DPO Javed Iqbal Marwat, intelligence reports led Swabi police and CTD officers to raid a suspected militants’ den in Ajmer, a mountainous area near Mainai. Instead of surrendering, the men opened fire. The officers responded in kind and the ensuing shoot-out lasted for three hours in which the suspected militants used Kalashnikovs and hand grenades.
Officials said four of the men were killed while the rest managed to escape.
