Vested right: Can allotment of land lease be cancelled?

Lahore High Court on Thursday sought further arguments on a petition challenging land allotment for a cricket academy.

Qaisar Mushtaq, a resident of Faisalabad, had filed the petition. He told the court that he had right to lease to the land but it had been allocated to cricket academy. The petitioner requested the court to retrieve the land from the administration. Appearing on behalf of the Faisalabad district administration, DCO Noorul Ameen Mengal said a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the district administration and the academy for a cricket ground and coaching school in the city.  The DCO said that the petitioner’s lease contract had ended but the land was still occupied. Saeed Ajmal, a former cricketer, also appeared in court.

He said the academy was being established to train children for cricket in Faisalabad. He asked the court to order the administration to remove the illegal occupants. After hearing arguments, Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi sought further arguments from parties and adjourned further hearing until November 17.

Missing person

LHC ordered the Gujranwala CPO to recover a missing man and produce him at court on the next hearing on October 26.  Abrar Ahmad, the petitioner, told the court that the police had kept his brother Aftab Ahmad at an unknown location over a financial dispute with a close relative of MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra.  He said his family had attempted to recover him several times but could not find him. He requested the court to order police to recover him and produce him in court.
