LAHORE:

Veteran politician and former Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) president Javed Hashmi met Governor Rafique Rajwana on Thursday.

The two exchanged views regarding the general situation in the nation and development projects in the province. Rajwana said democracy was being strengthened in the nation. He said the holding of the forthcoming local government elections in the province would also strengthen democracy. The governor said devolution of power was part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N’s) manifesto. He said it would empower citizens. Rajwana said this was the mission of the PML-N. He said the government had honoured its pledge of holding local government elections.

The governor said funds for citizens’ welfare and development initiatives in remote areas were being utilised. He said the number of development projects initiated by the government in south Punjab was remarkable. Rajwana said the metro bus project would transform Multan into a modern city.

Hashmi said it was mandatory on one to foil the designs of those conspiring to compromise democracy. He said those striving to grab power through unconstitutional means had no political future. Hashmi said the only route to office was the one through the ballot.
