Assistant referee claims to have been pressurized for giving decisions in favor of the Los Blancos

Reports emerged from Spanish media on Thursday that an assistant referee was asked to give favours to Real Madrid against Barcelona in next month’s La Liga fixture.

Spanish law enforcement agencies are looking into the matter after an assistant referee claimed to have been pressurized to give decision in favour of Real.



It was revealed in a six-page document that the assistant referee was asked to give supporting decisions for the Los Blancos in the match against arch-rivals Barcelona on 21^st November next month.

“Someone let me know about a referee that had a problem and wanted to talk with me,” Jacinto Vicente Hernandez, a sports lawyer, told SPORT after the document being made public.



“You can work out he’s not from Barcelona [as he wouldn’t be allowed to officiate the Clasico if he was], but I was in the city for professional reasons and we arranged to meet there.

“He explained everything that had happened and said he wanted to go public about the pressure being put on him because it’s the only way to clean up Spanish football.”



Vicente also explained that he was the reason for the assistant referee to go to the police, as he (referee) was only looking to release the information to the press.

As of now, Sapanish Football Association have not announced the match referee for the biggest game in the league, and will going to announce it a week before the scheduled match.
