ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday in a New Year’s resolve, vowed to direct all energies for the mitigation of problems being faced by the people of Balochistan.

He said he would make frequent visits to the province in 2011 to reach out to the common man and personally inaugurate mega projects for the improvement and welfare of the people of Balochistan.

Gilani said the Gawadar Port would serve as a catalyst of national development and directed that a certain percentage of trade be routed through the port. Gilani assured that all commitments made in the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan would be fulfilled.

The prime minister said the government was open to suggestions for bringing in socio-economic development for the people of Balochistan and asked parliamentarians to come up with new ideas to make the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan more productive.

He said the government was preparing workable plans for the optimal utilisation of the resources of the province.

Maria | 13 years ago | Reply I am reassured to see that Gilani is sending all the right signals for Baluchistan's development. It waits to be seen how much development will be realized but it seems that his heart is in the right place. My Baluchi friends see him as being sincere and there is a positive mood about good changes taking place in the future. It's great to see that Baluchistan natives have a positive view of the new direction .This is a reason to celebrate after the disastrous events of the last dictatorship. I would only caution that Pakistanis need to work for change- not just expect it to be given to them on a plate overnight.
abullah | 13 years ago | Reply gillani should do more 4 the education in balochistan than visiting the province and waisting the taxpayers money ..coz mr.gillani your visits to punjab have also done nothing..ur visit will have a cost in millions so plz instead of waisting our tax money open sum schools ,universities health care and entetainment facilitiees in balochistan and try giving them a better and improved lifestyle. lahori
