Annual report: Edhi rescued 5,616 injured from accident sites

The foundation also distributed medicines among 22,300 patients in the year.

LAHORE: Edhi foundation rescued 5,616 injured in 2,278 different accidents that took place in the city in 2010.

This was stated in a statement issued by the organisation on Friday. These accidents claimed 1,235 lives, the statement said.

The data showed that Edhi Foundation distributed medicines among 22,300 patients in the year.

According to the statement 52 bodies were moved to the mortuary from the sites of suicide attacks, 26 had died after receiving electric shock and 28 from hit-and-runs.

About 39 injured in the suicide attacks were shifted to hospitals.

The report said 44 people died by drowning into the canal. Fourteen were injured. In incidents of cylinder blasts, around 50 people died and 415 were injured.

36 died after being poisoned by unidentified men. 172 such cases were rescued and shifted to hospitals. Roof collapse claimed 53 lives, 379 were injured.

250 unidentified bodies recovered from different areas of the city were moved to the morgue.
