PTI fears committee will compromise Karachi operation

Also claims it will lead to political blackmail

ISLAMABAD: Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed reservations about the committee formed by the government to redress the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s grievances, saying it could jeopardise the ongoing operation against criminals in Karachi.

The committee was formed by the government in an effort to lure back the MQM’s lawmakers into the assemblies.

“The PTI rejects this committee,” the party’s information secretary Naeemul Haq said in a statement on Sunday.

Govt forms panel to redress MQM’s grievances

Haq said that his party had serious reservations over the committee with the MQM in it since it may lead to ‘political blackmailing.’

“With the MQM present, the committee would no longer remain impartial,” Haq argued.



“An attempt has been made to give MQM access to secret information, aspects of the ongoing operation against criminals since the interior secretary has been nominated as the secretary of the committee.”

The PTI information secretary also warned the government against trying to influence the Karachi operation.

PTI rejects committee to address MQM’s concerns

The government had this week notified the grievances redressal committee to address concerns of the MQM over the ongoing security operation in the metropolis. In August, legislators from the Karachi-based party had resigned from the National Assembly, Senate and Sindh assemblies in protest against stonewalling of its genuine concerns over the extrajudicial killing of its workers and a media gag on its leader Altaf Hussain.
