Chinese ambassador visits University of Agriculture Faisalabad

Ambassador says development along the Karakoram Highway, Karachi-Multan Motorway, Gwadar Port is essential

FAISALABAD:

“The Pakistan-China economic corridor will not only open avenues for progress in the region but also pave way for a dynamic partnership beneficial for both countries,” Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said on Saturday.

He was addressing teachers and students of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan was also present.

The ambassador said development along the Karakoram Highway, Karachi-Multan Motorway and the Gwadar Port were essential components of the agreement.

“Energy is the engine that runs a country’s economy. Power generation is essential for Pakistan’s economy,” he said. The ambassador said China had signed a number of agreements to address the energy crisis.

“China is the biggest investor in Pakistan,” he said.

The ambassador said there was scope for greater collaboration between the countries on food security. “Governments should boost agricultural ties for this purpose,” he said.  The Chinese ambassador said Pakistan and China’s friendship had entered a new era of collaboration and cooperation in research.

“The Confucius Centre at the UAF offers cultural exchanges. Students should use this platform to enhance their understanding of their neighbours,” he said.

The ambassador appreciated the steps taken by the UAF for promotion of research in agriculture.

“The UAF-Xinjiang University collaboration will help students from both countries to learn from one another,” he said.
