Power generation: Irrigation dept directed to complete water channel

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah directed the irrigation department to expedite the construction of a Rs12.4-billion water channel, which is supposed to provide water from the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) to Vajhiar Reservoir, from where it will be supplied to Thar coal field, Block II, to generate 1200 megawatts of electricity.


He said this while presiding over a meeting regarding the construction of infrastructure for the Thar coal field, particularly for water supply.

Briefing the chief minister, finance and irrigation minister Murad Ali Shah said that the water carrier channel from LBOD Spinal Drain, RD 362, to Nabisar for Thar coal field, phase I, was launched at a cost of Rs12.4 billion in 2013.

“So far, over Rs5.6 billion have been utilised on the scheme and, by June, 2017, it will be completed,” he said.
