SHANGLA:
The forest department has so far been able to collect Rs0.2 million as revenue from the Rs10-duty levied on every kilogramme of walnuts sold in Shangla. “The duty was levied by the provincial secretary of forest,” said Shangla Divisional Forest Officer Dr Farhad Ali. Not only has the duty been imposed but it was also said those who fail to pay would be fined Rs200. However, locals called the decision “an atrocity against the poor” and have asked the government to take back the decision.
