Mysterious circumstances: Body of SEPCO employee found in Nara Canal

Police yet to determine cause of death

SUKKUR: The body of a Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) employee was fished out of the Nara Canal in Salehpat on Thursday morning. The employee went missing three days ago.

Sepco's line superintendent in the Salehpat sub-division, Nadeem Mughal, had been missing for the last three days. The police began searching for the man and found his motorcycle at the embankment of the Nara Canal. Divers were called in to fish out the body but failed to do so.

On Thursday, a group of villagers informed the police about a body floating in the Nara Canal, which spurred the police to rush to the scene, and with the help of the villagers, the body was fished out of the canal. It was identified as the line superintendent Nadeem Mughal. The body was shifted to taluka hospital Rohri for medico legal formalities.

A Salehpat journalist, who had spoken to the colleagues of the deceased, quoted them as saying that Mughal looked disturbed but did not share his worries with them. They added that when he failed to turn up at the office on Tuesday morning, they tried to contact him, but his mobile phone was switched off. His colleagues then contacted his family members in Sukkur who said that he never returned home on Monday.

The journalist added that, on Tuesday, the deceased's colleagues informed the police, who found his motorcycle near the embankment of the Nara Canal. Salehpat SHO Waheed Khoso confirmed to The Express Tribune that his colleagues said the man looked disturbed. Khoso said they had not received the postmortem report yet but his body did not carry any torture marks. Sepco public relations officer Noor Ahmed Soomro said it has yet to be determined whether or not he committed suicide.
