KARACHI:

A former Sindh chief minister, Ali Muhammad Mahar, established Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College, Sukkur, in 2003, as a present to the people of Sukkur. He named the medical college after his father, Sardar Ghulam Muhammad Mahar. A year later, the medical college started in the building of the health technician school. Since then, seven batches of doctors have graduated from the institution. The medical college, which is affiliated with the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Larkana, was registered by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in 2008. The foundation stone of the college building was laid in May 2005 by the then Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim. This campus was spread across 54 acres near Sukkur bypass but the construction work continues to this day, apparently due to lack of funds.
