Is there anything more powerful than the bond between parent and child? We doubt it and so does Shoaib Malik.

Malik's cricketing career has been quite the roller coaster ride but when the Pakistan batsman scored his comeback century against England on Day 1, he knew exactly who to dedicate it to.

The all-rounder credited his mother in a tweet after a praiseworthy performance on the first day of the three-match Test series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Malik, who made a comeback to Test arena after five long years, scored 245 - his maiden double century in Tests - on his return courtesy 24 boundaries and four sixes.

After the long and hard fought first day he thanked his mother and pledged to work even harder to make her proud. Meanwhile, he also wished that his father was alive to see him play.

Pakistan declared their innings on 523-8 after winning the toss and opting to bat first under Misbahul Haq.

When Malik reached his double ton, his tennis-star wife Sania Mirza tweeted dancing emoticons followed 'Alhamdulillah'.

Both athletes have been in prime form recently, with Malik performing consistently with the bat and Sania winning the US Open double's title with her new out-of-retirement partner Martina Hingis.
