MULTAN:

Seven people, including two women, were killed in a shootout over land in Tulamba, Mian Channu in Khanewal district, on Sunday.

Police said Hafiz Kareem and Hafiz Bilal had a dispute over land. They said both families claimed a stretch of land. Bilal had reprimanded Kareem’s family on Saturday for trespassing on his property.  Police said on Sunday some members of Bilal’s family shot at Kareem’s family. Police said Kareem, his brother Hafiz Abdul Majeed, his uncle Zulfiqar from Burewala, his cousin Maqbool and sisters Khalida and Abida were killed.

Police said Bilal’s relative Muhammad Rafiq was killed. Four members of Kareem’s family – Abdul Latif, Saeed, Saifullah and Rubina – were injured and were taken to the district headquarters hospital where doctors referred them to Nishtar Hospital in Multan. Bodies of the eight people were taken to the Mian Channu tehsil headquarters hospital. Residents of the area said Kareem’s family had filed a complaint against Bilal with the Tulamba police on Saturday.
