Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK) awarded Rs28 million in financial aid packages to students from low-income backgrounds, a press release issued on Sunday stated.

The presser quoted  GIK Vice Chancellor Jehangir Bashar as saying, “The financial assistance policy was drafted by the institute’s founding fathers to help competent students from low-income families access quality education offered by the institute.”

The committee deciding upon the financial assistance was headed by Bashar. Other members of the committee included leaders from the administration department, finance department and others. The final approval to the financial assistance package came from former chief minister of K-P and institute’s president Shamsul Mulk.

The committee members interviewed the students, discussed all the factors related to the financial assistance, ensuring only deserving students get the financial help.

According to officials from the institute, students
who get financial assistance are now acquiring quality education in various
disciplines at the undergraduate level. In addition, a number of scholarships have also been awarded to postgraduate students.
